Guitars are the main instrument featured in most bands for this day and age. They have revolutionized the music industry and been fundamental tools in creating rock and roll music. However, when looking to buy one, a musician must understand the two major types of this instrument. These class distinctions are known as acoustic and electric.
These two types of guitars have many similarities but when looking directly at them, many of their differences can be seen. Both of these guitars have the same basic design. Each has six strings that play the same sets of notes. However, once they are played side by side, the sound quality is extremely different.
Acoustic guitars were the first type to be invented, as versions of it can be traced back to the middle ages. This instrument is usually made of wood and has a large sound reservoir at the base. This sound reservoir amplifies the sounds made by the guitar which helps it project to its audiences. Acoustic guitars are very popular in the country music world.
Electric guitars look much different than acoustic guitars. Most electric guitars require an amplifier to project sound to the audience. The design of an electric guitar mirrors an acoustic except that there is no sound reservoir. Knobs and switches can be placed at the base to regulate sound quality. Electric guitars were the instrument responsible for the flourishing of rock and roll music.
The largest discrepancy between these two instruments is the sound that is produced by them while being played. An acoustic guitar can be played anywhere, while an electric guitar requires a power outlet to produce its sound. Guitars are the cornerstone of new age bands and depending on the type of music played, an electric or acoustic guitar will likely be featured in the band.
